Toronto Wedding Photography | The Liberty Grand | Cheryl and Joey

Cheryl and Joey met in September of 2003, at a pub in Kingston, Ontario, where they were both attending University. Joey likes to take credit for making the first move, but according to Cheryl, it was her maid of honor, Rhiannon, who encouraged Cheryl to initiate a conversation.

We met Cheryl when she was a bridesmaid at another Wedding we shot last year. We are shooting one of Cheryl’s bridesmaid’s wedding in 2012 so this wedding party is like family to us!

We started this day with Cheryl and the girls at the Liberty Grand. You could feel the excitement in the air as Cheryl prepared for their “first look”. This is where we capture their expressions as they see each other for the first time all dressed up for their wedding.

After the first look, we headed out into the courtyard of the Liberty Grand for some photos with the Wedding Party and the Bride and Groom. We love taking fun shots of our couples and the Liberty Grand provides lots of gorgeous backdrops for photos.

This wedding was a semi-Jewish wedding that blended traditions from two different cultures. The first official event was the signing of the legal marriage documents. At a Jewish wedding, this is where the Ketubah is normally signed as well. The Ketubah is considered an integral part of a traditional Jewish marriage, and outlines the rights and responsibilities of the groom, in relation to the bride.

The courtyard started to fill quickly after the document signing.

The ceremony was absolutely beautiful. It began with the arrival of Joey and his parents, followed by Cheryl and her parents. There was wine and scripture, and blessings, and everything concluded with the breaking of the wine glass. Mazel-tov!

The evening then kicked into high gear with the introduction of the wedding party immediately followed by the Hora! If you’re not familiar with the Hora, it’s basically a giant square dance…done in a circle!

There was a cake cutting, first dance, parent dances, and of course, a garter and bouquet toss!
